Understanding and Supporting

Behaviour

Lunchtime Supervisors

Post Incident Reflection and Repair

Building Pupil Profiles

This course offers training in the understanding of why some children and young people become challenging and aggressive. By identifying, managing and intervening with negative behaviours at the lowest level using a range of de-escalation strategies, we are able to raise the confidence and knowledge of staff allowing them to build and maintain positive learning environments ensuring calm and inclusive classrooms.

Lunchtime Supervisors often receive the least training in schools. This course has been designed to increase their knowledge and confidence in recognising anxiety and the roots of aggression in children and young people. By providing increased communication and de-escalation skills, lunchtime staff will approach crisis situations in a safe and calm manner. This will raise their profile in school and lead to calmer, more positive afternoons.

Following any incident with children and young people, moving forward positively is of paramount importance. This course has been designed to improve the confidence and knowledge of staff in supporting children post incident -offering strategies for identifying and dealing with feelings and emotions which drive behaviour. By promoting Emotional Literacy we encourage young people to communicate their feelings and learn more socially acceptable ways of managing them in the future enabling them to be understood and suported.

Improved communication and knowledge is the key to supporting children and young people at times of heightened anxiety. This training is designed to enable staff to develop these skills and recognise the importance of building up to date information concerning pupils level of risk and support required. By looking 'beyond the behaviour' and identifying the external factors which drive it, the creation of 'Live Documents' allow for de-escalation strategies which are current and relevant to the child ensuring positive outcomes.

All of the courses outlined are available as twilight sessions or as part of your school Inset Days. Extra modules such as Attachment in the classroom, Recording and Reporting and Risk Management are able to be included in the training on request. Following training, staff will have access to ongoing Behaviour Wise Service Support where we will assist you with queries and follow up courses if required.
